The Plinth of Oddities

These pieces are part of a dialogue exploring present and past connotations associated with the countryside and our place within it.

As a species, humans have an inherent drive to create, and yet (we) seem to be increasingly desensitised and are destroying the world around us. The pandemic saw a ‘renewed’ bout of outgoing people, walking, running and cycling their way around. There is arguably a shift in perspectives, from the immediate sense of responsibility to waste less within our homes, to our impact upon foreign shores, and with it, our understanding of our place in the world. It is still questionable, however, that even when one is in the countryside, it does not necessarily mean that one interacts with it.
