Working predominantly from observation, Alexandra relishes painting en plein air where she endeavours to capture both the stillness and energy of the landscape around her. She is particularly drawn to the shifts in light at dawn and twilight, and during the brewing of or break in storms.

This work informs her other figurative works where it is part of an ongoing dialogue exploring present and past connotations associated with the countryside and our place within it.
